About the Author

John Shannon has been coaching youth athletics for nearly thirty years. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and a master’s degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the varsity tennis team at St. John’s University and the University of Minnesota. John was a teaching tennis professional for eight years and a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association. As a teaching professional, he worked with young athletes of all ages and abilities. John was the Head Varsity Tennis Coach at Washburn High School for two seasons from 1977 to 1978.
For the past fifteen years, he has served as a coach for over 30 community youth athletic hockey and soccer programs in Minnesota. He has served on the boards of various community athletic programs for nearly ten years.
During the ‘day’, he continues to be a coach of sorts serving as president and chief executive officer of successful medical device companies in Minneapolis since 1989.
